Fellow Traveller and Origame Digital have released the official story trailer for Penguin Colony, arriving on PC via Steam in 2026, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version planned for a later date.
This is the second project from Origame Digital, the studio behind the acclaimed Umurangi Generation, and it dives headfirst into a bold reinterpretation of Lovecraft’s mythos.
Lovecraft Reimagined Through a New Lens
Penguin Colony positions itself as both an adaptation and a reinterpretation of HP Lovecraft’s universe.
Drawing inspiration from At the Mountains of Madness and The Shadow Out of Time, the game imagines what the protagonists of Lovecraft’s stories might have been like in 1939, just two years after the author’s death.
But instead of human explorers, the witnesses to cosmic horror are… penguins.
A Colony Caught Between Two Forces
The narrative follows a penguin colony as it observes the chaos unleashed by Nazi scientists searching Antarctica for the origins of humanity.
Opposing them are the Kaitiaki, indigenous guardians determined to prevent this ancient power from being exploited and to return it to its long slumber.
One faction seeks control.
The other seeks balance.
The penguins are caught in the middle.
Explore Antarctica Through a Penguin’s Eyes
Players step into the role of a penguin exploring icy landscapes, following human footprints and uncovering disturbing discoveries.
Through this unusual perspective, the game highlights:
- Cosmic horror elements
- The psychological unraveling of those who chase forbidden knowledge
- The contrast between innocent observers and destructive human ambition
It is weird fiction told from the ground level, literally.
