Why Is Sony Paying $8 Million to PlayStation Players?
The class-action lawsuit traces back to April 2019, when Sony altered its retail policies by prohibiting third-party marketplaces and physical brick-and-mortar stores from selling individual digital game download codes. Following that policy shift, players who wanted to buy digital PlayStation games were forced to make those purchases exclusively through Sony's proprietary PlayStation Store.

How Do You Claim Your PlayStation Store Settlement Money?
For the vast majority of affected gamers, receiving compensation will be completely seamless:
- Active PSN Accounts: If you hold an active PlayStation Network account, no claim form is required. Compensation will automatically deposit as digital store credit directly into your PlayStation Network wallet once the court grants final approval.
- Deactivated PSN Accounts: Players whose accounts have been deactivated or closed must contact the official claims administrator to request a paper check. While the standard deadline to request physical check payments was August 27, extension exceptions may exist for individuals receiving formal legal assistance.
