AMATA Games and creator Noto Muteki have announced that Kinki Spiritual Affairs Bureau, the third-person action-horror title inspired by Japanese horror cinema, will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on July 30, 2026. The game is already available in Japan and previously released on PC via Steam on October 4, 2024, followed by PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S versions on July 15, 2025.
This new Switch 2 edition introduces exclusive control features designed to take advantage of the Joy-Con 2 hardware.
What Is the Story and Setting of Kinki Spiritual Affairs Bureau?
Kinki Spiritual Affairs Bureau places players in a world inspired by classic Japanese horror films, where supernatural encounters are not only terrifying but also confrontational. Unlike traditional Japanese horror games that focus on escape and helplessness, this title empowers players to fight back against spirits using a mix of melee combat, firearms, and stealth.
The narrative unfolds across ten levels, each featuring cinematic sequences that deepen the mystery behind the supernatural events players must face.
What Are the Core Gameplay Mechanics?
The game blends several systems to create a tense but action-oriented horror experience:
- Melee Combat: Close-range encounters with spirits.
- Firearms: Ranged combat options for stronger or distant threats.
- Stealth Sections: Strategic movement to avoid detection or set up attacks.
- Ten-Level Campaign: A structured progression with narrative cutscenes.
- Four Difficulty Modes: Accessible for newcomers and challenging for veterans.
- Customizable Controls: Full controller remapping for personalized play.
What Is the Nintendo Switch 2 Exclusive Feature?
The Switch 2 version introduces pointer controls using the Joy-Con 2, allowing players to aim and interact with the environment in a way similar to mouse-style precision. This feature enhances combat responsiveness and exploration, making the Switch 2 edition uniquely suited for players who prefer more tactile control schemes.
Who Should Play Kinki Spiritual Affairs Bureau?
This game is ideal for players who enjoy:
- Japanese horror aesthetics
- Action-focused supernatural combat
- Games that blend fear with empowerment
- Narrative-driven horror with cinematic presentation
It stands out from traditional horror titles by giving players the tools to confront spirits directly rather than simply run from them.
