Panache Digital Games took the Summer Game Fest spotlight to unveil 1666 Amsterdam, the studio’s newest project led by Patrice Désilets, known for shaping the Assassin’s Creed franchise. The game is a third person action adventure built around narrative depth, supernatural forces and a city shaped by centuries of hidden influence.
A Free Prologue Sets the Stage
Alongside the announcement, the studio released a free standalone prologue on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Lasting around 30 minutes, it introduces the world, key characters and the central mysteries that will drive the full game. It also gives players a first look at the tone, structure and supernatural elements that define the experience.
A City Ruled by Ancient Beings
Set in Amsterdam in 1666, the story unfolds in a version of the city influenced by powerful entities known as Originals. These beings have lived among humans for generations, shaping events from the shadows. Players follow Noa Brooklyn, a young woman destined to become a Collector, as timelines from different eras begin to collide.
Three Timelines, One Converging Mystery
The prologue jumps between three distinct periods:
- 1666, the heart of the supernatural conflict
- 1999, a modern era with its own secrets
- Present day, where the threads finally begin to tighten
Players can also choose a companion to accompany Noa, offering different interactions and perspectives as the story unfolds.
Six Years in the Making
According to Désilets, the team has spent six years shaping the project, prioritizing a playable experience early in development. The prologue represents only a small slice of what the full game will offer, hinting at a much larger narrative and world waiting to be explored.
Early Access Coming in 2026
1666 Amsterdam will enter Early Access on PC later in 2026, with console versions planned for a later date. With its blend of historical intrigue, supernatural forces and multi era storytelling, it is already shaping up to be one of the most distinctive projects in development.
