What Is the Story of Bollywoof?

Bollywoof combines physical comedy, vibrant visuals, and musical spectacle to explore the cross-cultural bond between Britain and India through the eyes of its animal heroes.

  • Lost in Kolkata: The narrative centers on Basil, a pampered British Springer Spaniel living in Yorkshire who belongs to an 11-year-old boy named Luke. When the family moves to Mumbai, Basil gets accidentally loaded onto the wrong flight and ends up stranded 1,000 miles away in the bustling streets of Kolkata.
  • An Unlikely Trio: To navigate the unfamiliar territory and escape a relentless dog catcher, Basil joins forces with Santosh, a charismatic, Bollywood-obsessed street dog, and Uma, a feisty holy cow.
  • Cross-Country Journey: Together, the trio embarks on a comedic, action-packed trek across India to reunite Basil with his human family, weaving together themes of friendship and pet ownership.

Who Is in the Voice Cast and Creative Team Behind Bollywoof?

Producer Jason Newmark noted that the filmmakers set out to assemble a premier vocal ensemble capable of carrying the film's international emotional appeal.

  • David Jonsson: The BAFTA Rising Star Award winner voices lead canine Basil.
  • Kunal Nayyar: The comedic actor voices Santosh, the streetwise street dog who loves Indian cinema.
  • Olivia Colman: The Oscar-winning legend leads the supporting ensemble in an undisclosed key voice role.
  • Elite Supporting Talent: The cast also features Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill), Sanjeev Bhaskar (Unforgotten), and Ambika Mod (One Day).

Producer Namit Malhotra and the team at Prime Focus Studios designed Bollywoof to be the first Western-style, global animated feature set in contemporary India. The filmmakers express hope that the movie will achieve a cultural touchstone status similar to Pixar classics Ratatouille and Coco.
