What Is Another Eden Begins About?
Written and directed by legendary JRPG developer Masato Kato (Chrono Trigger, Xenogears), Another Eden Begins serves as a fully realized, standalone console reimagining of the world introduced in Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space. The game features a main theme composed by Yasunori Mitsuda, with additional tracks crafted in collaboration with Procyon Studio.
The narrative centers on Aldo, a young man living peacefully in the village of Baruoki alongside his younger sister, Feinne. Their peaceful lives shatter when the King of Monsters kidnaps Feinne. During his rescue attempt, Aldo is swallowed by a rift in space-time that hurls him 800 years into the future.
To rescue his sister and prevent a world-ending catastrophe, Aldo must cross multiple eras, spanning:
- The Past: A primitive era filled with ancient secrets and elemental spirits.
- The Present: A classic high-fantasy medieval realm.
- The Future: A sprawling, tech-heavy sci-fi metropolis.
How Does Combat and Party Synergy Work in Another Eden Begins?
The battle system blends classic turn-based JRPG mechanics with modern tactical resource management. Players assemble a active battle party selected from 18 distinct recruitably allies gathered across various historical periods.
Key tactical combat mechanics include:
- Another Force Meter: Striking enemies builds up the Another Force gauge. Once activated, time stops for your opponents, allowing your party to unleash a rapid-fire barrage of abilities without enemy interruption.
- Chain Skills: Party members can combine elemental and physical attributes to perform linked attacks that inflict high burst damage.
- Deep Companion Quests: Characters develop beyond combat through Encounter Quests, Character Quests, and Kinship Quests, revealing backstory and strengthening party synergies.
Beyond combat, players can craft custom weapons and armor, cook stat-boosting meals, and complete a world-wide cataloging quest to find lost cats scattered across time.
What New Features Are Included in New Game Plus?
One of the standout features of Another Eden Begins is its extensive replayability through a reimagined New Game+ mode.
Upon completing the main campaign, players retain all character stats, levels, and gear for subsequent playthroughs. New Game+ introduces Ramiu, a mysterious companion who unlocks branching narrative paths. Depending on the choices made during the journey, players can unlock more than ten different story endings.
The free six-chapter demo is available now on the Nintendo eShop and Steam, with progress transferring smoothly to the full release on September 17, 2026.
