Smoking Behind the Supermarket With You Lights Up New Trailer Ahead of July Premiere

A new trailer has confirmed that Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You will officially premiere on July 9 2026, bringing Jinushi’s gentle, offbeat romance back to screens. Before the full launch, a special version has already aired, splitting the first six episodes into twelve ten‑minute shorts to give fans an early taste of the story’s charm.

A Team Bringing Soft Comedy and Warm Atmosphere

The adaptation is animated by Asahi Production, the studio behind Gushing Over Magical Girls.
Direction is shared by Tadato Suzuki and Aoi Mori, with scripts by Mio Inoue, known for A Mangaka’s Weirdly Wonderful Workplace.
Character designs come from Yasuka Ōtaki, whose expressive style helps capture the series’ mix of humor, melancholy and everyday intimacy.

A Cast That Brings the Duo to Life

The main cast includes:

  • Takuya Satō as Sasaki
  • Seena Hoshiki as Yamada and Tayama
  • Shinya Takahashi as Suzuki

The manga began serialization in March 2022, and its seventh volume arrived in July 2025, continuing to grow its fanbase.

A Story About Small Escapes and Unexpected Connections

The series follows Sasaki, a middle‑aged office worker worn down by the monotony of corporate life. His one bright moment each day is seeing Yamada, the cheerful cashier at his local supermarket.
But one night, after missing her shift, Sasaki wanders off in search of a place to smoke and instead stumbles upon Tayama, a mysterious young woman in a biker jacket who invites him to a hidden smoking spot.
What begins as a simple cigarette break becomes a quiet, unexpected bond that slowly reshapes Sasaki’s lonely routine.

A Slice‑of‑Life Romance With Heart

With its grounded characters, gentle humor and soft emotional beats, Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You is poised to be one of summer 2026’s standout slice‑of‑life romances.
