What Is MAPPA’s 15th Anniversary Short Film

Instead of a montage of past works, MAPPA created a completely new animated short that blends music, character animation, and glimpses of the studio’s creative process. According to MAPPA, the film:

  • Brings the emotions of the music to life through animation
  • Portrays the lives of people living in the same era
  • Explores human connection and the choices that shape the future
  • Incorporates key animation, storyboards, and production elements

The result is a celebration of both human relationships and the craft of animation, presented with the studio’s signature visual flair.

The short film features contributions from several of MAPPA’s most experienced creators.

Key staff includes:

  • Planning: Manabu Ohtsuka

The short premiered alongside major announcements, including the first teaser for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4 and updates on Dorohedoro, Ranma 1/2, and Oblivion Battery.

Why PEOPLE 1 Was Chosen

MAPPA’s collaboration with PEOPLE 1 is rooted in the band’s history with the studio.

Notable connections include:

  • PEOPLE 1 performed “DOGLAND”, an ending theme for Chainsaw Man
  • Vocalist and bassist Deu collaborated with Eve on the MAPPA produced music video “Like the Flatwoods Monster”

Their sound and storytelling sensibilities align closely with MAPPA’s emotionally charged animation style, making them a natural choice for the anniversary project.

What Is MAPPA’s Legacy After 15 Years

MAPPA was founded on June 14, 2011 by Masao Maruyama, co founder of Madhouse. At age 70, Maruyama established MAPPA with a vision centered on creative freedom and ambitious animation projects.

The studio’s name stands for Maruyama Animation Produce Project Association.

In fifteen years, MAPPA has grown from a small venture into one of the most influential studios in modern anime, producing globally recognized titles such as:

  • Attack on Titan The Final Season
  • Jujutsu Kaisen
  • Chainsaw Man
  • Yuri on Ice
  • Dorohedoro
  • Hell’s Paradise

The anniversary short reflects the studio’s commitment to artistic expression and innovation.
