Daniel Fineberg, known for his work on Sable, has announced his next project: In the Drift.
Developed with a small team of friends and collaborators and supported by Phantom Friends, the game is coming to PC via Steam.
This time, Fineberg trades desert sands for drifting asteroids and a story about connection in a world slowly falling apart.
Life in the Belt
In the Drift takes place in The Belt, a scattered chain of asteroids floating in the dusty reaches of space.
You play as Luna, a young engineer tasked with a responsibility that feels both mundane and monumental:
keeping the Belt’s fragile internet infrastructure alive while a mysterious force known as the Drift pulls harder on the place her people call home.
Repair, Drive and Hold the Community Together
Luna travels between drifting asteroids in her truck, repairing:
- Rusty radio towers
- Failing communication nodes
- Crumbling infrastructure
Each mission is a small act of preservation, keeping the Belt’s residents connected even as their world fractures around them.
Return to the Ship and Find Your Crew
After each job, Luna returns to her ship, where she can:
- Spend time with her crew
- Explore the vessel
- Learn more about the people who share her journey
The game emphasizes quiet moments, conversations and the emotional threads that bind a community together.
A Story About Connection in a Crumbling World
In the Drift introduces a cast of colorful characters and a narrative built around human connection, resilience and the bittersweet beauty of holding on when everything around you is drifting away.
Fineberg’s signature touch is clear: a gentle, atmospheric adventure with a focus on people, place and meaning.
