ArenaNet took the Summer Game Fest stage to officially announce Guild Wars 3, marking the long running MMORPG’s first appearance on home consoles with a release planned for PC and PlayStation 5. The studio also confirmed that the first public test is scheduled for fall 2027, giving fans a timeline for when they can step into this ambitious new world.
A Prequel Set a Millennium Before the Original
Guild Wars 3 rewinds the clock more than a thousand years before the events of the first game. The story unfolds in Orr, a vast and untamed frontier overflowing with magic. This era is defined by the Vael spirits, nature entities that embody the life force of the land. These spirits vary in size, power and influence, with the most important being the Seeker.
Your Seeker Is Your Companion and Mount
As shown in the reveal trailer, each player’s Seeker acts as both a spiritual link to Orr and a mount that travels alongside them through the open world. This bond becomes central to exploration, combat and progression, giving players a companion that evolves with their journey.
Become a Vaelwarden in a Living, Magical Frontier
Players step into the role of a Vaelwarden, a member of a guild dedicated to protecting Orr and its spirits from factions seeking to exploit its power. Through deep character customization and the series’ signature skill progression, players will forge relationships with the spirits, the people of Orr and fellow Vaelwarden as they face threats across the region.
Combat Built for Both Controller and Keyboard
ArenaNet designed the combat system from the ground up to feel natural on both controller and traditional PC setups. Positioning, movement and momentum play a major role. As players shift between different forms of traversal, they can convert speed into heavier strikes and more impactful abilities, creating a fluid rhythm between exploration and combat.
A New Vision for the Guild Wars Legacy
With its console debut, a new era in the timeline and a world shaped by living spirits, Guild Wars 3 aims to redefine what the franchise can be.
