Final Fantasy VII Revelation Takes Flight With Highwind Exploration and New Playable Heroes

Square Enix used the Summer Game Fest 2026 stage to officially reveal Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the long awaited conclusion to the remake trilogy. After years of calling it “Part 3,” fans finally have a title, a trailer and a release window. Revelation launches simultaneously on PlayStation and PC in Spring 2027, setting the stage for the saga’s climactic showdown.

Save Data Bonuses Reward Returning Players

Square Enix confirmed special rewards for players who carry over save data from previous entries:

  • Chocobo & Moogle Summon for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade
  • Phoenix Summon for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

A small touch, but a welcome nod to fans who’ve been on this journey since 2020.

Highwind Exploration Changes Everything

The trailer’s biggest reveal is the ability to freely pilot the Highwind across the open world of Gaia. The airship isn’t just fast travel. Players can leap from the Highwind at any moment and parachute straight into the environment in a seamless transition. It’s the most ambitious traversal system the remake trilogy has attempted.

Iconic Locations Return With Massive Upgrades

Revelation brings back several beloved regions from the original game, including:

  • Mideel
  • Wutai

Wutai in particular looks dramatically expanded, hinting at a major narrative role and a much larger playable space than fans expected.

New Combat Systems and a Perfected Battle Flow

Matt Mercer, the voice of Vincent Valentine, revealed the new Fit mechanic. This system alters character abilities based on classic Final Fantasy jobs and even changes their visual appearance. According to Mercer, the combat system from Remake and Rebirth has been refined into its “perfect” form for Revelation.

Vincent and Cid Join as Full Playable Characters

Two fan favorites finally step into the spotlight:

  • Vincent Valentine becomes a permanent party member, wielding firearms and transforming into the devastating Galliant Beast with a single command.
  • Cid Highwind joins the roster with a hybrid ground‑and‑air combat style built around his iconic lance.

Both characters bring major new depth to party composition and strategy.

New Threats Rise Beyond Sephiroth

Revelation raises the stakes with a meteor on a collision course with the planet and the awakening of the legendary Weapons. The trailer clearly shows:

  • Sapphire Weapon
  • Ultima Weapon
  • Ruby Weapon

A massive structure emerging from the ocean strongly suggests the arrival of Emerald Weapon, raising the question every fan is thinking: will the submarine return as well?

A Finale Built to Shake Gaia

With new regions, new systems, new playable heroes and the most ambitious world design in the trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Revelation is shaping up to be a monumental finale.
