Company of Heroes – Definitive Edition Brings the WWII Classic Back to the Frontlines This Fall

Relic Entertainment used the PC Gaming Show 2026 stage to announce Company of Heroes – Definitive Edition, launching for PC via Steam in fall 2026.
This new edition modernizes the iconic World War II RTS while preserving the gritty squad‑based tactics and cinematic battlefields that made the original a genre‑defining hit.

CEO Justin Dowdeswell emphasized that the goal was simple: keep the original experience alive, but elevate it for today’s hardware and players.

All Campaigns, All Armies, All Maps

The Definitive Edition bundles the full Company of Heroes experience into one package, including:

  • Three cinematic campaigns
  • Four distinct armies
  • Over 50 multiplayer and skirmish maps

It is the most complete version of the classic ever released, designed for both returning veterans and new recruits.

Visual Upgrades Without Losing the Classic Look

Relic has enhanced the game with:

  • Rendering improvements
  • Increased draw distance

These upgrades sharpen the battlefield without compromising the original’s visual identity. It still looks like Company of Heroes, just clearer, cleaner and more immersive.

Modern Features for Modern Commanders

The Definitive Edition introduces a suite of technical and gameplay improvements, including:

  • Ruthless AI difficulty for a tougher challenge
  • A modernized interface and control scheme
  • Support for grid keys and customizable hotkeys
  • New mechanics such as vehicle reverse and automatic unit reinforcement at HQ
  • Full widescreen and ultrawide support with an adapted HUD
  • Complete compatibility with 20 years of community mods

It is a careful balance of preservation and modernization.

A Definitive Edition Built for the Community

Company of Heroes – Definitive Edition is more than a remaster. It is a celebration of one of the most influential RTS games ever made, rebuilt with respect for its legacy and shaped by decades of community passion.
